John & Viki's Wedding 2022

These dolls were a surprise wedding present for our friends, John and Viki.
Viki had been so supportive since the early stages of Cawcas Dolls and we knew she wanted one of her own.
They were great fun to make and we had lots of laughs scouring Facebook for photos of their faces.
Stef was a bit nervous as this was his first time painting real people's faces on dolls. He and John have known each other for a long time, so he was happy enough to make a funny looking version of him but he didn't want to upset the bride!

Viki had shown me a picture of her dress, but was planning on adding sleeves and beading herself, so some of it was guess-work.
We spent the first part of the wedding noticing the tiny differences, but it did end up pretty accurate thankfully.

John, on the other hand, didn't tell us much - and it's harder to quiz the groom about what they're wearing without sounding like you're making them a memory doll!

Stef managed to be the sneaky one here though and got some information.
We couldn't get the exact tartan, it's still the Patriot tartan, but a different version and the jacket is a slightly different shade, but it was a pretty good match.

We decided to wait until we'd seen him in the full regalia before adding much detail, so I'm still to make a tie, waistcoat and sash.

I totally loved making the miniature versions of these clothes. Getting the details right on such a small scale was really fiddly but we think they turned out just right.

I seem to have a weird obsession with making tiny shirts ... maybe I was a faerie tailor in a past life ...
